Morning Power Shake with protein, fiber, and flax

Decided to start documenting the stuff I make at home in an effort to document my adventures in cooking. Good stuff for programmers. All the recipes will be pretty easy to make.

This recipe is packed with protein and really jump starts your immune system. Its hard to screw up and you can switch out some of the fruits with things like blueberries, pineapple, coconut, etc. Steer clear of 'seedy' fruits like pomegranate, blackberries, and raspberries. Those make it a weird crunchy consistency I don't like and makes it hard to pound it back.

It tastes a lot like Naked's Green Machine smoothie but not as sweet. And much easier to make.

Also, make sure to not put seeds of things like Cherries in there as they can contain things like cyanide. No joke. Look it up.

HINT: you can use frozen fruits but they don't taste ANYWHERE close to as good as fresh fruits and veggies

Hardware needed:

Materials needed:

  • 4 strawberries (i cut the tops off and then in half so they fit in there better)
  • 1/2 a banana (keep the other half in the fridge for the next day)
  • 1/2 an apple (keep the other half of the apple in the fridge with the cut banana). my pic shows a full one cut but I only used four wedges
  • Large handful of baby spinach. Not sure how much. just grab a handful and cram it in there
  • 3 spoon fulls of unflavored greek yogurt. Not sure how much. Just grab a little kitchen spoon and start scooping three times...
  • 2% milk. (Can substitute with water if you want) Per usual, not sure how much. I add it at the end and usually get it up to 1.5-2 inches at the bottom of the cup when all ingredients are added. It makes it not too thick.
  • 10-15 Almonds
  • A teaspoon scoop of flax seed/fiber additive. I use Nopalina. Its worked great for me. IMPORTANT NOTE: Don't add too much unless you want to have a really interesting day at work...
Get all the ingredients above prepped and stick them in the blending container. Stick the blade it, blend it for 15-30 seconds, take off the blade, put the cover on it and go.

As seen in the below image, I went over the max fill line. Its never hurt anything and when fully blended, it only fills half of the blending container.

I'm not sure how many calories or protein are in this thing, but I always feel super full and get super hungry by lunch.
